PhD in political studies Senior Researcher, Institute of Social Science, Sogang UniversityI decided to major in the politics of the network society after developing a fascination with PC communication and its ability to enable the observation of actions of countless users. I am interested in any area where information technology and politics intersect. The major topics of my research have been e-government, network-based political parties, and the social innovative forms of technology in use by civil society today.
I have conducted research on IT policy at the National Election Commission and the National Assembly Research Service and published numerous papers, including “Politics and Democracy in a Network Society: Changes to Government, Political Parties, and Civil Society and Future Outlook,” “The Techniques of Democracy: Online Election Campaigns in the United States,” “Democracy in Transition: Theoretical Concepts, Case Studies, and Systems Analysis of Online Elections,” and “Civic Skills: Politics and the Economy of Sharing in a Network Society.”
In my current research, I have been focusing on the ecosystems created by the “good” technologies of local startups that, despite their limited resources, are making valiant efforts to transform Korean society. I am particularly interested in demonstrating how Korea’s world-class information technology can be utilized in ways that enhance the actual happiness levels and quality of life of Korean people. I am hopeful that my deliberations and research will produce meaningful outcomes.
