Title Special Address: “The Path Forward for AI in Korea”

Kyung-Hoon Bae, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, is one of South Korea’s leading experts in artificial intelligence (AI). He oversees national science, technology, and AI policies across ministries, driving Korea’s next leap forward through AI innovation.
He earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Electronic Physics and Electronic Engineering from Kwangwoon University. Dr. Bae has led AI and future technology strategies at major ICT and manufacturing companies and, as the founding head of LG AI Research, spearheaded the development of the Korean large language model EXAONE, promoting digital transformation across industries.
In recognition of his achievements in innovation, he received the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit in 2023. He is a full member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea and has contributed to national policy development in AI strategy, standards, and ethics as a private-sector member of the Presidential Commission on AI and a member of the National Science and Technology Council.
