Ki-Young Chung
President, Samsung Economic Research Institute
Chung Ki-Young is currently President and CEO of Samsung Economic Research Institute (SERI). In 2007 and 2008, he was executive vice president and director of the SERI Research Planning & Coordination Department. Before joining SERI, he was a senior executive vice president of Samsung Life Insurance Co. and the head of Samsung Research Institute of Finance.
From 1993 through 1996, Mr. Chung worked at the Korea Institute of Finance, where he served as director of research and chief of the International Finance Team, leading major research projects related to the liberalization of Korea’s capital market.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, Mr. Chung was a leading researcher and active participant at academic societies, including Korean Financial Management Association, Korean Finance Association and Korean Association of Futures and Options. Throughout his career, he also served at many financial and economic advisory boards of the Ministry of Finance and Economy as well as Presidential Secretary Councils. He was a commissioner of the International Finance Division at the Financial Development Committee of the Ministry of Finance and Economy from 2000 to 2007.
For over two decades, Mr. Chung has written and spoken extensively on a wide range of topics concerning the financial service industry and financial globalization. Many of his articles and research papers have been published in major Korean economic journals and newspapers. His published working papers include The Yield Measurement for Bonds with Imbedded Options: The Option-Adjusted Duration-Adjusted Yield, and one of the several finance textbooks he co-authored is International Finance. Also, he has given speeches at numerous international and domestic financial forums, including the UN Development Program conference held in New York.
Mr. Chung holds a Ph.D. degree in Finance from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a B.A. in Business Administration from Seoul National University in Korea.
