Professor, Department of Communication, Seoul National University

Lee Eun-Ju is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at Seoul National University(SNU). After receiving her BA and MA in communication from SNU, she completed her PhD in communication at Stanford University, with a minor in psychology. She then joined the communication faculty at the University of California-Davis as an assistant professor in 2001 and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2007. She left UC-Davis to take her current position at SNU in 2008.

Her research foci include social cognition and social influence in computer-mediated communication and human-computer interaction. Recently, she has investigated how readers’ comments on Internet news portals shape individuals’ perception of reality and their reactions to news, what motivates knowledge sharing in online forums, and how politicians’ SNS-based communication affects public attitudes. Her work has consistently appeared in top journals in communications and related fields, and she has won nine top paper awards from various divisions of the International Communication Association(ICA), National Communication Association, and Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication.

At present, she is serving on the editorial boards of the field’s flagship journals, including Human Communication Research, Communication Research, the Journal of Communication, and Media Psychology. She is also the first Korean communication scholar elected as an ICA board member-at-large, representing the East Asian region.
