Jung-Hee Song Jung-Hee Song

Senior EVP, Platform & Innovation Group, KT

Jung-Hee Song, a senior executive vice president at KT's Platform & Innovation Group, is one of Korea's first-generation female engineers who opened up industries for women.

She graduated from Seoul National University in 1981 majoring in electronics engineering and obtained her Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1989. Since then, she has been involved in politics, government, and academia while devoting her effort to improving development of the IT industries in Korea.

Starting her career as a senior engineer in Electronic Equipment Laboratory at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology in 1989, she later was promoted to a director of Strategic Planning office at Samsung Electronics. Meanwhile, she focused on the technology planning and new business development that contributed to Samsung’s growth in the global market. Song also served as an assistant professor in the media engineering department in 1999 at Sogang University. She then switched gears and led software solution company Telezen.

In 2003, she was appointed as an IT policy advisor to Minister of Information and Communication of Korea. When she led the IT 839 project and government IT R&D initiatives, she brought out current IT issues and spoke up for key improvements to build significant policies for IT industries.

Since October 2006, she served for 4 years as an assistant mayor of IT (CIO) at Seoul Metropolitan Government. She led a project upgrading the outdated government systems, enabling Seoul to provide the world's best e-government services among 100 cities' e-governments. As a result of her achievement, she was recognized as the “CIO of the year” in 2009.

Since she joined KT in 2011, she has worked as the head of Service Innovation Group. In 2013, the Group was renamed Platform & Innovation Group which primarily focuses on executing innovation of the products and services from the customer’s perspectives and business innovation through the ICT convergence.

Especially, the goal of 2013 is to successfully execute "Business & Information system Transformation (BIT)" in order to allow future growth.
