Co-founder & CTO, Fitbit

Eric Friedman and his business partner James Park founded Fitbit in 2007 after realizing that sensors and wireless technology had advanced to a point where they could bring amazing experiences to fitness and health. They embarked on a journey to create a wearable product that would change the way people move. Fitbit’s mission is to empower and inspire users to live a healthier, more active life. Fitbit offers a family of award-winning products and experiences that fit seamlessly into the user’s life to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. Since its debut, Eric and James have grown Fitbit aggressively – according to a recent industry study conducted by the NPD Group, Fitbit dominates the full body activity tracker category, having sold 67% of total units in 2013 in the U.S. It is currently on sale in over 29 countries including Korea.

Eric is an experienced technologist who loves to create and scale innovative consumer applications. At CNET / Webshots, Eric led the engineering team for one of the largest photo sharing sites in the world, with 500+ million stored photos and 20+ million monthly visitors. Before Webshots, he was a co-founder of Windup Labs, which created HeyPix, one of the first P2P photo sharing applications. CNET Networks acquired Windup Labs in 2005. Prior to Windup Labs, Eric was a founding engineer of Epesi Technologies and was also a technical member of the Real-Time Collaboration Group at Microsoft. Eric has a BS and MS in computer science from Yale University.
