Today we are enjoying good connectivity. People, services, data and devices are creating immense networks, and at the kernel of this connectivity is, of course, what nearly half of the world now takes for granted – the internet. By 2020, 5 billion people, or 70 of the world population, are expected to be brought online making the internet practically one of the world’s most important pieces of infrastructure. Kilnam Chon developed Asia’s first internet called the SDN Software Development Network in 1982 and has been the driving force behind its dazzling evolution in Asia and the world. The internet pioneer says the coming decade poses critical questions that are both daunting and exciting: How can we re-imagine the internet so that it can be a truly global platform for communication and innovation? What kind of innovative wisdom does this age call for to make the best of it while fending off the side effects, expected or unexpected? Chon invites all of us to come together and create the internet - not as we know it, but as we imagine it.
