Being Parents in the Digital Age
“My kid spends too much time on his computer shutting himself up in his room.”
“Why wouldn’t my parents let me use my smartphone when they use theirs all the time?”
Tensions are running high in many families over the children’s overuse of digital devices. Parents are not happy that their kids are glued to the screens neglecting their studies; children are upset because parents don’t seem to understand things they do with devices are not just time-killers but are enjoyable and often necessary for them. Things have changed drastically over the past decade. In this new digital world, what is it that our children feel and experience? What are some of the untold, unnoticed stories in today’s parent-child relationships? The keys for a conversation can be found if we pay more attention to our changeable minds. In this session, Doh Young Yim seeks to discover hidden pieces of experience that will reconnect parents and children in the digital era.
