SF, Tales of Another Us
The match between AlphaGo and Go grandmaster Lee Sedol to some may have seemed like something out of a science fiction film. Science fiction has been providing us with unique opportunities to explore alternative or metaphorical worlds, broaching themes such as emotional bonds between robots and humans, Huxleyan eugenics societies and space colonies. What kinds of new relationships will technological advances engender among humans, machines and environments? What roles can science fiction play in this age where change is the only constant? In this session, SF writer Bae Myunghoon, film director Lee Hojae and Seoul SF Archive’s Park Sang-Joon illustrate why science fiction is an essential genre in imagining a future community that celebrates diversity.
