Earth, our home Earth, our home planet, is running a high fever. North Pole ice is rapidly melting and the peaks of the Himalayas, once blanketed under perpetual snow, are baring their slopes. There are speculations that the North Pole will see ice-free summers within 30 years.
It seems as the climate is ‘striking back’ at selfish mankind. Mr. Ban, Ki-moon, The UN Secretary-General, has repeatedly stated that global warming poses a threat no less grave than war.
The situation in Korea is especially grim. Tuna are being caught where Pollack were once main catch and grapes are harvested in regions where used to be famous for apples. Korea needs to prepare for both short- and long- term climate change threats and accumulate data necessary to implement a genuine alert and warning system.
At this crucial time, SBS and distinguished global experts are determined to provide vision and policy suggestions to the Korean government, private sector, and general public regarding initiatives and actions for addressing climate change. We shall also be exploring solutions that would enable sustainable ‘green growth’ for the Korean economy.
