Bong-Jin Kim
CEO, Woowa Bros.
Kim was a fun-loving, mischievous boy with a flair for painting. His dream of becoming a professional artist like Vincent van Gogh, however, seemed difficult to achieve as he could not afford expensive art classes. After his eventful adolescence, he managed to enter the Seoul Institute of the Arts as an interior design major.
When he was about to begin his career as an interior designer, the Asian financial crisis hit the industry hard. He then landed his job as a web designer. Having established himself as a well-recognized figure in the industry, he ventured into furniture design – the business that only lasted 6 months. This experience of failure caused him to re-evaluate his life which had been narrowly focused on creating designs.
His incessant efforts to build consistency in life gradually brought him good habits and good people. In the process, a side project he started with his brother and friends became a megahit application topping 10 million downloads, revolutionizing Korea’s food delivery space.
Kim defines himself as an entrepreneurial designer rather than a designer-turned-entrepreneur. With a unique and ingenious management style, he continues to attract a lot of attention from both the start-up scene and design industry.
