Ryan Gantz
Senior Director of Product Design, Vox Media
Ryan Gantz is senior director of product design for Vox Media, which publishes The Verge, Eater, Racked, Curbed, SB Nation, Polygon, Vox.com, and Re/code. Since joining as a founding member of the Vox Product team in 2007 he has helped grow a small network of fan-focused sports blogs into a digital media that now engages hundreds of millions of people with high quality content and brand experiences in categories they’re passionate about.
Through early engagement with weblogs and the independent web, Ryan developed a deep love for the internet as a tool for expression, community and connection. His passion for writing, photography, art, and comedy led him towards experimentation with CSS storytelling, a love for web design, and years spent building campaign blogs and community tools for a variety of progressive causes. His fascination with early social software led him towards his wife, whom he met online in 2003. They live with their children in a house filled with Legos in Portland, Oregon.
In his current role, Ryan has a special focus on strategy and innovation of Vox Media’s platform, Chorus, which provides talent with world-class creation and distribution tools, and empowers audiences to connect and converse safely around topics they care about. He believes that team character is reflected in the things they build, and that products are opinionated in ways that affect the lives of humans who use them.
Ryan has a B.A. in English from Boston University, and has recently been teaching a UX/Product Design course in conjunction with Hack Oregon. He is also quite tall.
